Towards realising zero GHG emissions (GHGs) as part of AmBank Group’s Sustainability agenda and supporting Malaysia’s goal to reduce intensity of GHGs across the economy
Friday, 30 September 2022 - AmBank Group has undertaken to proactively reduce its carbon footprint in electricity consumption by installing Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lightings in four of its main buildings in the Klang Valley in line with AmBank Group’s Sustainability Agenda.
Jamie Ling, Group Chief Financial Officer, who is also the Chairman of AmBank Group’s Energy Management Forum said, “We are proud to announce that four of AmBank Group’s main buildings are now fully installed with LEDs, namely Menara AmBank, Bangunan AmBank Group, Wisma AmFirst and Damansara Fairway 3. We strive to continuously minimise our business’s environmental impact. Through responsible consumption practices and policies, we actively identify and implement ways to reduce our carbon footprint”.
The installation of the LED lighting for the main buildings started since 2019 and was conducted in phases before the full completion in July 2022. Meanwhile, the installation of LED lighting for branch premises is currently ongoing and targeted to be completed by the end of FY2023.
As part of long-term target to achieve Net Zero Carbon, AmBank has also implemented other green initiatives, such as
- procurement of new air-conditioners with 3 to 5-star energy efficiency ratings under Energy Commission for all buildings and branches since June 2022,
- transitioned from air-conditioners with Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) to a more eco-friendly gas,
- switching to renewable energy supply through the Green Energy Tariff (GET) agreement with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB),
- the use of PV solar panels in AmBank Damansara Fairway 3 building, the Group has achieved a carbon offset of more than 1,786 metric tonnes in FY2022.
Through the various energy management initiatives that have been implemented, AmBank Group has successfully reduced its Scope 2 GHG emissions by 29% since FY2019.
In May 2022, AmBank was awarded the Energy Management Gold Standard (EMGS) certification, making the bank the first institution to receive such recognition, where the bank received 1-star certification for Menara AmBank.
