In a heartwarming display of community support and solidarity, AmBank Group, in collaboration with Khadijah International Waqf Foundation (KIWF) conducted a significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme at the Kajang Women’s Prison, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan. This initiative, marked by compassion and a commitment to social welfare, saw a delegation from the Bank, alongside members of KIWF, sharing an Iftar dinner with 1000 inmates, fostering a sense of community and support.
The Iftar dinner, known as Iftar Perdana, which was exclusively sponsored by AmBank, is a component of KIWF’s broader Majlis Ilmu Khadijah 5.0 programme which involves a range of activities over 28 days within the month of Ramadan, benefiting deserving communities. The activities include “Majlis Ilmu” to share knowledge and insights on topics relevant to Ramadhan such as the Quran, fasting, zakat and charitable giving; disbursement (Infaq) of Iftar food packs; giving of zakat to the less fortunate; and Waqf in the form of cash endowments or assets used for charitable causes or educational initiatives.
Shazman Shahid, AmBank’s Head of Group Corporate Communications & Marketing, emphasized the initiative's importance, stating, “This programme is a testament to AmBank's dedication to making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. Ramadan is a time of reflection, generosity, and giving back, and we are honoured to share this moment with the inmates of Kajang Women’s Prison. Our collaboration with KIWF and our ongoing relationship with the Malaysian Prisons Department through Persatuan Sahabat Penjara Malaysia reflects our deep-rooted commitment to social responsibility and community care.”
Senior Assistant Commissioner Anbalagan A/L Subramaniam Deputy Director of the Malaysian Prisons Department (Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur), expressed gratitude towards the initiative, “We are deeply grateful to AmBank and KIWF for their generous contribution and for shining a light on the spirit of compassion and rehabilitation. This initiative not only provides material support but also emotional and spiritual upliftment to the inmates, reminding them that they are a part of our community and are not forgotten, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.”
The event underscored AmBank’s long-standing relationship with the Malaysian Prisons Department, facilitated through Persatuan Sahabat Penjara Malaysia, under the leadership of Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Chairman Emeritus and Honorary Adviser of AmBank which is the society’s President.
This collaboration reflects a shared vision of contributing to the welfare of the underprivileged and supporting rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.
AmBank’s initiative with KIWF at the Kajang Women’s Prison is a beacon of hope and compassion, embodying the true spirit of Ramadan. It not only highlights the importance of community and togetherness but also reinforces the positive impact corporate entities can have through thoughtful and meaningful CSR activities.
